Issy was Mary’s sister, at least that was what Mary called her. The two of them were similar, they looked similar, but they were not twins.

Issy came to visit us often. I liked Mary, I liked Issy. The first time I met her we had a lot to drink. I woke up in the morning with the two them on top of me; we still had all our clothes on.

Issy was a singer in a band, Boo-Hoo Loops and the Quokkas, who did gigs in local pubs. Mary and I went to watch, Issy as Boo-Hoo Loops was pretty wild, she did old numbers from Blondie, Dusty Springfield and Tina Turner. And the two of us cheered.

One of the pubs, the Brown Jug, was particularly rough, it should have had sawdust on the floor. Halfway through Nutbush City Limits somebody threw a half-filled beer mug onto the stage and hit her. The band switched, there must have been a sign from Issy.

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before!

Issy jumped down from the small stage and smacked the culprit in the face and thumped him twice. She waited until he had crawled out the street door; she jumped back on the stage and roared into the next number.
